This template is designed to replace previous templates which were located at:
- Template:Novel specific
- Template:Film specific
Its purpose is to describe neatly whether an article's subject exists in real life, in the canon of the Forrest Gump novel and sequel, and/or in the canon of the Forrest Gump film.
To use the template, copy the following format:
| Exists in novel
| Exists in film
| wikipedia = Lyndon B. Johnson <!-- Wikipedia article -->
The first parameter indicates that the subject exists in the novel. It doesn't matter what text takes the place of the first parameter. Just that there is text.
The second parameter indicates that the subject exists in the film. It doesn't matter what text takes the place of the second parameter. Just that there is text.
The third, named parameter is the name of the Wikipedia article describing the subject in real life. Virtually everything worth mention on this wiki that also exists in real life will also have a Wikipedia article. If left blank, the entire statement is omitted: it doesn't explicitly say that it doesn't exist in real life.
Some things on the wiki, especially those from Gump & Co., do not actually exist in real life, but resemble real-life things. Virtually everything in the novel is fictionalized to some degree, but these things have been renamed from their actual counterparts. For instance, the article Ivan Bozosky resembles real person Ivan Boesky. So the format on his page is:
| Exists in novel
| resembles = Ivan Boesky <!-- Wikipedia article -->
If it doesn't apply
There is no such thing as a "blathersmite" in real life, nor in either Forrest Gump canon. If we were to have an article "Blathersmite", for whatever reason, we might use the following format, leaving each field blank.
Which would produce:
The subject of this article:
- is not mentioned in the Forrest Gump novel canon (including Gump & Co.)
- is not mentioned in the Forrest Gump film canon
