Snake is the quarterback of the University of Alabama Crimson Tide when Forrest Gump plays for the team. Near the end of the novel, he is revealed to have advanced to a player for the Green Bay Packers, until he was caught drinking an entire quart of vodka during halftime. Then he played for the New York Giants, until an intoxicated state caused him to lose the ball. He resorts to being an assistant coach for a Tiny Mites football team in Georgia.

In Gump & Co., having become a quarterback for the New Orleans Saints, he is involved in a fight at a strip joint called Wanda's, which ends in his and Forrest's arrest.
