In Gump & Co., Forrest Gump and Lieutenant Dan are brought by Colonel Oliver North to meet the President after train hopping to Washington, D.C. Colonel North convinces the President to send himself and Forrest to Iran on a diplomatic mission in what would become known as the Iran–Contra affair.
In addition, Forrest meets the man who attempted to assassinate Reagan, John Hinckley, Jr., while in jail for his role in the previous event.
