Mobile, Alabama is Forrest Gump's hometown in the Forrest Gump novel.
After becoming massively successful in the shrimping business, Forrest is given the keys to the city and asked to be on the board of directors of both the hospital and the symphony orchestra.
In the film[]
In the film, Forrest's hometown is instead the fictional Greenbow, Alabama. Mobile is only mentioned once in the film, as Forrest explains the origins of some of the folks passing through Gump Boarding House.
