The Medal of Honor is awarded to Forrest Gump by Lyndon B. Johnson after Gump rescued soldiers and brought them to the river in the Vietnam War. Forrest later gives the medal to his love interest Jenny Curran as a present saying that he got it just by doing what she told him to do. She later leaves it with him after she leaves him when he asks her to marry him. It is never seen again after this scene. When a Medal is issued, it also comes with the corresponding ribbon for the medal to be worn on a ribbon bar on specific uniforms when full-size medals are not worn. In subsequent scenes when he is wearing uniforms on which there are ribbon bars, the Medal of Honor ribbon is missing. It is a light blue ribbon with five white stars and would be worn on the left side of the topmost ribbon bar over the wearers left breast pocket.
