Gerald Ford was the 38th President of the United States. He has no direct role in the Forrest Gump film, but the second attempt to assassinate him is shown on a television newscast being watched by Forrest Gump and Lieutenant Dan aboard the shrimping boat Jenny.
In the novel, his assasination attempt is not discussed. However, the Vice President of Richard Nixon has a very brief role, in which he is verbally abused by the President and excuses himself by saying "I have to go pee". Nixon had two Vice Presidents: Spiro T. Agnew and, later, Gerald Ford. The Vice President discussed is not explicitly named, but he is likely to be Ford.
