jjForrest Gump is a 1986 novel by Winston Groom retelling the adventures of the title character through several decades of American history. It was adapted into a film by Paramount Pictures in 1994.

Writing style

The novel is written from the perspective of the title character, and this is reflected in the colloquial style of writing. There are many casual, intentional misspellings of words ("an" instead of "and", "outta" rather than "out of", "wile" instead of "while") as well as ones that aren't even detectable in speech ("wierd" instead of "weird"), as well as italics used to represent Forrest's Southern accent ("defense", with italicized "de").
