The drill sergeant is a character in the Forrest Gump film, portrayed by Afemo Omilami. He is the sergeant of the same platoon Forrest Gump is in when he enters the army.
The drill sergeant first asks Forrest what his sole purpose in the army is, with Forrest responding "to do whatever you tell me, drill sergeant!". The drill sergeant calls Forrest a "goddamn genius" and says his response was "the most outstanding thing he's ever heard" and calls Forrest "goddamn gifted".
Later on, the drill sergeant gives the platoon the task of assembling and disassembling a weapon. Forrest does this task in the quickest amount of time, prompting the drill sergeant to ask how he put the weapon together so quickly. Forrest replies by saying "you told me to, drill sergeant." The drill sergeant tells Forrest that "this is a new company record" and saying that he could be a general someday, before saying "now, disassemble your weapon and continue!".
