Coach Fellers is the coach of the high school football team which Forrest plays in. Fellers approached the massive Forrest on the street to ask if he'd ever played football, which he hadn't. The coach then had Forrest removed from his special-education school so that he could attend (and play for) the local high school.
Near the end of the novel, as Forrest is getting into the shrimping business, he hears that Coach Fellers is retired, so he hires him "workin on boats an docks".
